Roy Hibbert talks Pacers, Celtics, Xs and Os and player development

For today’s episode of “The Celtics Chronicle,” I’m joined by Roy Hibbert, a 2-Time All-Star and 1-time All-Defensive Second Team selection, to discuss the Boston Celtics’ chances in the playoffs.

Hibbert enjoyed a nine-year tenure in the NBA, making his name with the Indiana Pacers alongside Paul George and David West before brief spells with the Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets and Denver Nuggets. Following his retirement, he spent three years with the Philadelphia 76ers as a player development coach, working closely with Joel Embiid.

During the interview, we discuss the Pacers current series against the New York Knicks and the development of Indiana’s younger players — including Aaron Nesmith.

The Boston Celtics and how their defense could line up against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Some Xs and Os talk, especially on the value of “Nash” dribbles and paint-switching. The value of two-way production from star players.

“I really respect players that bring it on both ends of the court. Now, are they going to get a stop every time? No. But at the same time, as a teammate who sees — you know, let's say PG shoots the ball 25 times a game, rightfully so.

But at the same time, you know, I'm not going to get mad at him when I see him locking down and trying to get a defensive stop. And then carrying on both sides of the court. So I really respect those types of players, and Boston has that. Now Tatum, obviously he has range and can shoot. Sometimes I think he takes a couple fadeaways when he doesn't have to. He can keep attacking the basket. But, uh, but those two guys take the space. I like that.”

And MUCH MUCH more.

This one was one of my favorite interviews ever, and I can’t wait to bring you more from Roy and me in the future! And go show Hibbert some love, here’s an awesome video breakdown from him ahead of the Heat series.
