The Celtics Chronicle: Now Serving Celtics Coverage in Multiple Flavors!

The newsletter is growing!

It’s been a busy few days here. I took the last few days off. When I first started trying to cover the Celtics back in the 2016-17 season, I started with a podcast. Everything else followed. Podcasting has always been a bedrock of my coverage. In a way, it helps with my writing. I talk through ideas; I talk myself into different thought processes, I get to speak with new people and create friendships or connections. And it’s a great way of connecting with fans from around the world.

Some of you probably found me through my podcast work. Others may have found my podcast through my writing. Some may prefer to read, other’s to listen. In the modern media landscape, you need to do both—and create video content — if you want to keep pushing forward.

Over the past few years, I’ve been fortunate to be part of some stellar podcasts. I was the host of CelticsBlog ‘CelticsPod’ for multiple years. I’m incredibly proud of my work there and the growth we saw while heading up that show. However, SB Nation ended its podcast offering. That led me to join the Green With Envy podcast, joining Will Weir and Greg Maneikis. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts on my part led me to be on the show far less than any of us would have liked. As such, I’ve stepped away from that show.

It’s bittersweet.

On the one hand, I’m leaving a show with two great co-hosts who work their asses off. Two guys I consider to be friends. These are the same people who flew from Texas to Boston to meet me when I was out there covering the LeCry game between the Lakers and Celtics in Feb. 23. I’m also leaving an audio feed I helped build and a YouTube channel I helped grow into a monetized offering. There is a lot to be proud of there and a lot to be sad about.

On the other hand, I get to start from scratch, with years of experience and a new audience that I’m catering to. Starting this week, the Celtics Chronicle podcast and YouTube channel will launch. I’m excited about this…It’s going to take a while to get a cadence, and for me to get into creating the video content I’m excited about, but it’s a way to offer more to subscribers and to find new people interested in joining the growing community here.

I will be manning both of these projects solo. But there will undoubtedly be some recurring voices. During the playoffs, I will be joined by a former co-host of the CelticsPod,

for some of the episodes. Brenden is credentialed media for the Sacramento Kings. He’s one of my closest friends in basketball media. We both started our journey of covering the NBA together by podcasting about the Celtics. He knows his shit. He will be a great addition to the show as we jump off.

Another former co-host of mine, Tim Sheils, who is also one of my closest basketball friends, will likely jump into episodes in the coming weeks as he builds some momentum after a season away from covering the team. Like Brendan, Tim and I have hundreds of hours of podcasting together. There’s an on-air chemistry there.

Of course, there will be interviews, guest appearances, and many solo episodes where I’m talking into the ether — please stick with me as I get used to this…It’s been years since I did any form of solo podcasting.

Here is the opening episode of the podcast:

The YouTube channel will likely be a home for these episodes in video format, but I have some really fun ideas for there, too. For now, if you would like to support the new additions to the Celtics Chronicle’s coverage, please consider hitting the subscribe button on the page — I’ve linked a random clip from there, so it’s easy to navigate.

Right, let’s dive into some Celtics basketball.

Why I’m excited

By adding audio and video coverage, I’m moving the newsletter toward the complete offering I was hoping for when I decided to take the dive and start this thing. Again, everything is still in the early days. I’m going to make mistakes. I’m going to slip up with posting consistency while I get everything moving in the right direction.

I’m really excited about building all this out and see how far we can take this. I’m happy to hear any feedback, questions, or thoughts, too! So don’t be shy!

Just as a side note: Podcast releases will not replace newsletter posts…except for today, as I’ve spent the morning getting it all setup. The podcast should be live on all major podcast providers within the next few days.

Also, if you’re new here, why not subscribe to get updates every time I release something new? And if you’ve been here a while, why not upgrade to receive every post?
